The Right Brush for the Right Grill: Brushtech’s American-Made Approach

The Right Brush for the Right Grill: Brushtech’s American-Made Approach

By Zaven Gunjian, BRUSHTECHnology Engineer

For housewares buyers and retailers, a grill brush is more than an accessory. Its construction and fit for the cooking surface are part of the product story customers need to understand.

At Brushtech, that thinking led us to rethink conventional wire-bristle grill brushes in 2013 and launch our first spring-based alternative in 2014. We developed the designs and manufacturing processes at our factory in Plattsburgh, New York, building on a brushmaking business founded in 1976.

The grill determines the brush

Customer feedback taught us an important lesson: one brush cannot do every job well. Flat griddles, round rods and angled grates need different cleaning approaches. Our growing family reflects those differences:

  • B516C: A flattened spring configuration for flat grills and griddles.
  • B410C Quad Spring: A spring-based cleaning head for traditional wire and rod-style grates.
  • B541C: A downward-assist design with an additional handle for V-shaped and triangular grates.
  • B414C: A dedicated brush for cleaning the grill brush itself.

From the factory to the retail conversation

Brushtech earned two Golden Tickets at Walmart’s Open Call, another milestone in taking our designs from prototypes and independent shops to national retail conversations. The backyard video below introduces the B516C and B410C in the inventor’s own words.

For the housewares industry, the takeaway is simple: match the cleaning tool to the cooking surface, and give customers a clear explanation of why the design matters. Always follow the grill manufacturer’s care instructions and inspect cleaning tools and grates before cooking.

Fifty years of American brushmaking. Still finding better ways to tackle everyday cleaning problems.
